Shepherds Crook

The Shepherds crook is a basic tool for the shepherd.

In the highlands of Great Britain lie the roots of this fine hand craftsmanship. Many people are satisfied with metal and fiberglass material.  But there’s nothing like a handmade crook.

The handle is made out of ram horns, water buffalo horns and exotic woods. It has to be said that not all handmade crooks are equal.  Every handmade crook is unique.

A good crook is a part of your personality.   It must feel good, comfortable and a good balance.

It takes patience making sticks,  don’t try to force things.

I enjoy it and during the winter period you can find me at my workshop,  bending wood,  soaking horns..
“This art form is still alive”.

I am always interested in horns.   Also fine pieces of wood are welcome.  Better making fine things out of wood then burning it in the stove! (don't you agree?)
The wood can give warmth for a couple of hours a nice handle gives you lifetime warmth.

A crook and walking stick I made for our son Wyatt.
The crook has a hornhandle and the fork on the walking stick is out of hardwood.

A walking stick I made with a Border Collie head on top.

I make crooks and walking sticks on request.
Since horns are hard to get there might be a waiting time.

This is rather rare since this piece of wood gave me the inspiration to carve the head on top.  The branch was covered with honeysuckle a plant that grows up on other plants and gives this special shape on the branch.

I also make walking sticks with forks on top made out of deer horns and hardwood tops.
